In the middle of March 2020, a big change occurred. All public school students started to learn from home. Teachers taught from home. Everyone stayed at home. Everyone learned on a device. This was remote learning. This happened because of the global COVID-19 pandemic.
However, in the Fall of 2020, blended learning (also known as hybrid learning) became an option. This way, students could go to school in-person two or three days a week, and attend remote school on the other days. Others chose to stick to full remote learning. I chose to do blended learning. Remote learning can be very tiring because of all the hours that you have to spend staring at a screen. In-person allows you to socialize better. A lot of times I feel distracted or tired during remote learning.
I feel more focused during in-person. Something I like about remote learning is that I can do everything at my own pace. I can also take breaks when I like to, and set my own schedule. Because I like some things about remote learning and some things about learning in-person, I’m okay with blended–going only two days a week. But it would be pretty great to go back to five days!
The differences between remote learning and blended learning are huge. The reality is that people are different. Remote learning is better for some, and blended learning is better for others. People have different needs and fears, and that makes us all human.
