As the day rose from the night, BCS seniors were full to the brim with joy and happiness–all awaiting one thing: The College March. Those who participated expressed feelings of cheerfulness, expectancy and togetherness.
As students and families gathered in the school’s small yard, laughs and bursts of happiness flooded Henry, Rapelye, and Cole streets. The soon-to-be alumni received their College March shirts and wore them with pride. Teachers and parents yelled “Congratulations” and “I’m so Proud.” Everyone knew the undeniable pleasure in the air. The colors blue and white, symbolizing the seniors sailing off into college, engulfed the atmosphere of the yard. The stage awaited the encouraging messages given by select seniors representing their specific crews and the college counselor.
The BCS Cheer Team revved up the crowd. Not even 2 minutes into their perfectly executed and choreographed performance, the rest of the seniors screamed out “GO BCS SENIORS”. People laughed, held up signs, and clapped like nothing else mattered at that moment. Any negativity was washed away by the indescribable positivity that the cheer team and speeches provided. Speakers expressed the euphoria that they felt like a phoenix who had arisen from the ashes of the pandemic. The gusty wind spread the enthusiasm across Carroll Gardens and Red Hook were all joined in.
Banners, posters, and shouts of congratulations spread as the trailblazing seniors made their way to the post office. “You Got This!” and “Woo Hoo”’s filled the cold air. Yet, although it was cold, everyone’s hearts were filled with warmth. We all have collectively had one of the most hectic and stressful years of our lives. The College March provided a beautiful respite that filled our spirits with hope and positivity. So BCS Seniors–“Congrats! , You made it! To all the other students, ‘We got this!'”
