College March is a tradition that Brooklyn Collaborative Studies holds annually for the graduating Seniors. This March celebrates the college education process, the journey from 9th grade to 12th grade, and keeping seniors’ dreams and hard work alive when they graduate. College March also marks the halfway point of senior year and makes seniors feel celebrated while navigating a stressful time. We wrote thank you letters to people who have helped us through the college process. Seniors during the March are given congratulations by their lower-class men and posters that they can take home. This year’s College March was made by Christina B., Asha, Imani, Scill, Christine, and many more BCS staff.

As a senior who transferred in their 11th grade year, I didn’t even know what a College March was or what to expect. I volunteered to help at the College March for the class of 2024 and got a taste of what it would entail for me in the following year. This year I was expecting the same thing, just marching and eating but I was met with something totally different. High fives, smiles, dancing, parents, motivation to pursue my goals even further, and also the realization that my high school journey will be over and my college journey will soon begin.
This event uplifted me because during this time I got to talk to classmates I don’t have classes with. I got to meet my classmates’ parents and eat some good food which uplifted my spirits even more.
The advice I would give to the following Seniors is to cherish the core values, student-led events, and the journey. College March is made possible by staff yes but also by being a persistent student throughout the whole process. You’ll go from looking up to others to the one students are looking up to. BCS is something special, unlike the average public school. BCS lets students have voice, and freedom and gives a student multiple levels of experience and a lot of students don’t see that until it is almost over, their senior year. Don’t rush the process because when you rush, you’ll miss your friends, the hard work, the journey, and most of all the memories that happen so fast.
Thank you BCS!
