Brooklyn Collaborative Studies is partnered with EL Education, an organization that transforms K-12 schools through proven instructional practices, high-quality curriculum, and aligned professional learning. I had the honor of attending their annual National Conference in Denver, Colorado from November 29th to December 2nd. While there I got to meet people from across the country, including the President of EL Education, EL board members, and teachers and students from other EL schools. Each of these encounters was unique and opened my eyes to just how vast and diverse EL schools are. EL schools engage students in expeditionary learning that excites them, includes diverse voices, and connects to real-world experiences.
That’s not all! I also played a crucial role at the conference. As a member of the EL Student Advisory Council (SAC), I was given the opportunity to present a panel at the conference to a room full of educators. Two other SAC members and I, along with two local Denver school students, presented our panel entitled The Power of Storytelling to over 90 people. This panel highlighted how storytelling is all around us and how every individual has the power to tell a story. also got to attend workshops and panels from other SAC members during my free time. My experience at the National Conference will be one that I cherish forever. I cannot wait to attend the 2024 National Conference in Atlanta.
