Why wait to graduate from high school to get a sneak peek into college life and to take classes on campus? If you’ve ever wondered what college is really like or dreamed of accelerating your journey to college, the College Now Program is for you.
The College Now is a FREE college transition program for NYC DOE high school students (10th-12th grade). The goals of the program are to help students earn college credits before graduating from high school and become college-ready. Through CUNY’s partnership with the NYC DOE, students are able to take classes at one of the 17 CUNY undergraduate colleges.
BCS has partnered with CUNY’s CityTech campus. To be eligible for College Now, you must be a rising 10th, 11th, or 12th grade and have an overall GPA of 80 or higher. New students are able to apply at the beginning of the fall or spring semester. CityTech’s College Now Program offers a wide range of courses each semester including psychology, sociology, biology, microeconomics, public speaking, marketing, computer programming, pre-calculus, English, American Government, and more! Students can take one course per semester These courses allow students to earn both high school and college credits simultaneously as well as foster readiness for the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.
Participating in College Now allows students to get a headstart on college and saves money on tuition and books. College Now students can start their first semester in college with up to twelve college credits or at minimum start college without remediation if they pass their classes. The credits earned will transfer to all CUNY and non-CUNY schools.
I am currently taking a psychology course at CityTech. My experience in the College Now Program has been nothing but positive! I am being taught by an actual college professor, which helps me see what to expect in a college course. I am also experiencing lectures. The coursework has been spaced out and the course syllabus has helped with time management, which is beneficial to high school students who have to balance both high school and college classes. In addition, by taking psychology this semester, I am able to explore what I might want to major in and what career I want to pursue a career in.
I recommend the College Now Program to any high school student who meets the requirements. It’s extremely beneficial and resourceful. In addition to taking classes, the programs offer workshops on the college admissions process, financial aid, and career exploration. The College Now Program ensures an easier transition from high school to college when the time comes for your college journey post-high school.
