BCS Students and Teachers watching the Eclipse on the Roof
April 8th, 2024 was an awe inspiring day as it was the first time in my thirteen years on Earth that I would witness a solar eclipse. I think my mom was more excited than I was, though, because she marked it on her calendar weeks before, and ordered safety glasses from Amazon for us to view the solar phenomenon.
After 8th period, we made our way up to the BCS rooftop where we joined other staff members and students. It was an impromptu party. It was funny too, because Chloe had a Solar Eclipse playlist going and seeing my mom and the others sing “Total Eclipse of the Heart” was totally embarrassing.
In the blink of an eye, the sky started to darken sometime after 3pm. All I heard was “oohs” and “aahs.” People were disappointed that it didn’t darken completely, but it was still really cool to see.
My mom told me that the eclipse was going to give us superpowers but she’s pretty super already. She also told me it was an opportunity for change and renewal. As I graduate from BCS this June, I’d say it was perfect timing.
