Right before the big snow storm, Mayor de Blasio said that snow days were “a thing of the past” because even if kids couldn’t go to school, there would be remote school.
Snow way! No more snow days? Snow days are good because you can have lots of fun. You can relax and have more time to do what you want to do. You can play in the snow, make snow angels, hang out with your friends, have a snowball fight, go sledding, or make a snowperson together. There are also treats like hot chocolate with marshmallows to warm you up after a cold day in the snow.
Even teachers like snow days. Tom Griffith, Science teacher, said, “When I was a kid (a very, very long time ago) snow days were magic because they appeared out of nowhere and meant sledding, snowball fights, and no school.” Liz Clark-Garvey, Math teacher, said, “It was hard to hear that the city is suggesting we don’t have snow days moving forward. There is so much excitement and fun that goes along with snow days that will be lost.” Candice Simon, Social Studies teacher, said, “As a teacher, I really appreciate snow days because everyone needs a break from work/school sometimes and a break that you’re not expecting is the best kind!”
If there were no more snow days, people would be disappointed because kids like to have fun. Snow days are a way to get a break from school. Kids and teachers really look forward to snow days.
If we did have remote school on snow days, at least we wouldn’t have to drag through the snow to get to class. And since we don’t miss a day of school, we wouldn’t forget about homework and what we learned in class. Remote school would keep us inside more when it’s snowing, so kids wouldn’t get colds and call in sick the next day from being outside for too long. .
Snow days have good and bad things about them. Even if snow days don’t happen anymore, and we just get a remote school day, we can still find time to have fun in the snow with our friends.
