What do you enjoy about being a school nurse?
I love to interact with kids and to help them become more healthy. I enjoy seeing them at different ages and seeing how they develop. Being a pediatric nurse is my calling!
What does it mean to be a woman?
Being a woman means strength. We still have to fight to be recognized as equal. Women give life, which takes strength and a lot of work. We carry so much on our backs and have had to overcome so much. I draw strength from women.
What woman in your life inspires you?
My mom and grandmother inspired me. They taught me strength and perseverance. They told me to dream big and to not let anyone stand in my way. They encouraged me to never say “can’t” and to go after what I want. As a woman of color, I knew I had to work ten times as hard and to never give up!’
What message would you share with young women to inspire them?
Life circumstances may be hard sometimes. Don’t let anyone stand in your way. Don’t accept that you “can’t” do something. You just have to try harder. Don’t give up. If you fail, that’s a lesson learned. Failure is life’s lessons. It teaches you something. Don’t let your failure hinder you from your goals.
What does Women’s History Month mean to you?
Having Women’s History Month means that we are paying homage to the women who paved the way so we can achieve what we have today. We are standing on their shoulders.
