Do you ever wonder about the history of your favorite food? If so, you would like the YouTube channel, Tasting History with Max Miller. In these videos Max Miller makes food from historic recipes, talks about history related to the food, tastes the food, and then gives his honest opinion. He often creates seasonal videos about food that connect to a certain holiday.
Episodes cover a wide range of topics. In Wonderful History of Pancakes, Max makes pancakes from a 1658 British cookbook with the very long title The Complete Cook: Expertly Prescribing the Most Ready Wayes, Whether Italian, Spanish, Or French, for Dressing of Flesh, and Fish, Ordering of Sauces, Or Making of Pastry. He then discusses the variety of pancakes from different countries and eras—dating back to prehistoric times. Other episodes include pirates’ biscuits and a drink called Grog from 1815, Japanese noodles from the Edo Era (1633), a 16th-century Aztec chocolate drink recipe from the Florentine Codex, and a 4000-year-old Babylonian lamb stew.
Max started making videos in early 2020 when he was unable to go to work at Disney because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Now making YouTube videos is his full-time job. In addition to Tasting
History, he also has Drinking History featuring historical drinks, and Ketchup with Max and Jose, a behind-the-scenes show that Max makes with his husband, Jose. You can watch Tasting History right here:
