On Monday, December 1st, the 9th grade visited SUNY Old Westbury in Long Island as part of our school’s partnership and being a Future Ready school. As a 9th grader, I honestly think the trip was great– and that SUNY Old Westbury seems like a promising university.
First things first, the university’s layout was very open. There was lots of room to walk around and just interesting places to go and check out. They even had a built-in Cafe, which had Starbucks drinks! The dorm rooms were also pretty nice, and there’s a room for students to simply relax and hang out. It’s in a rural area, so you might even spot some deer out and about. There are some interesting majors you could go for, like psychology, criminology, liberal studies, and many, I mean many more. Another thing, the cafeteria was amazing. The food was very well made, and they even had ice cream. Of course, there’s also a salad bar and a few drink dispensers if you’re looking for some more healthy foods.
The only issue is probably how far it is, as it is in Long Island, in a rural/suburban area no less, so it might take you an hour or so just to get there. Even so, you could just apply for a dorm room. Speaking of dorm rooms, you have to be ready to deal with any type of person you might end up rooming with. Not to say any of the people there were bad. In fact, I’d like to say that all the people I met at SUNY Old Westbury were very nice to talk to and/or be around, as they helped us learn about all the things the majors and minors the school has to offer, along with the many sororities and fraternities, such as the Groove Phi Groove Social Fellowship, (GΦG, Fraternity), the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, (ZΦB) and quite a few more.
All in all, SUNY Old Westbury was very nice to visit, as it was very open and there were lots of areas to just sit and have a nice look around. I hope to go there myself once I graduate from here at BCS, maybe to major in criminology. Speaking of BCS, let’s give them a round of applause for arranging stuff like this for us students. Not to glaze, but I’m really appreciative of them for letting us visit colleges early on in our high school careers, so we have plenty of time to think about where we want to go once we graduate.
