On Friday, November 3rd, the ninth grade (Class of 2027) had a campus visit to SUNY Old Westbury. The visit was a good opportunity for us as ninth graders to have exposure to the college experience early during our time in high school. Overall, the campus was a positive experience with many memorable highlights.
One highlight was the student panel discussion to begin our campus tour. The students talked about their experiences and the lessons they learned, which was inspiring. They told us facts about college life that will help us to succeed in college and motivate us to keep pushing when things get tough.
Another highlight, and one thing I did not expect to see at the campus, was the diversity it had. Old Westbury also has many clubs and extracurricular activities and classes in a variety of majors that will benefit students academically and help them in whatever career they decide.
The campus visit gave me an idea about things I should think about when applying to colleges, like location, career majors, clubs, extracurricular activities, sports teams, food, dorm, academic support services, and so much more. For example, I would prefer to leave the city because I want to have an experience away from home and try to figure things out on my own.
I really appreciate that BCS provides students with the opportunity to visit colleges. Going on these trips as ninth graders gives us a plan for how to prepare for college and a vision of our future.
