Why did you become a school safety officer?
I became a school safety officer to protect, especially children. After losing one of my twin sons to brain cancer at the age of 12, I became even more committed to children, particularly children who are in trouble.
What do you do as a school safety supervisor?
My job is to make sure that everyone at 610 Henry is safe, including checking the exits and making sure that no one is trespassing into the building. My team and I wear a thousand and one hats.
What are three words to describe you?
Strong, sensitive, and understanding.
What does it mean to be a woman?
To be a woman means strength, honesty, and mothering.
What woman in your life inspires you?
My mother. She taught me a lot as a teenager, as a young adult, and today as a
mother. If I had a daughter, I would teach her love and respect for herself.
What message would you share with young women to inspire them?
Focus on yourself and trust your beliefs. Don’t listen to anyone else when it comes to yourself.
What does Women’s History Month mean to you?
Having Women’s History Month is amazing! It makes me feel like I am being put on a pedestal and getting what we deserve.
