The recent trip of middle school students to JP Morgan Headquarters trip was amazing! As part of a career exploration day, we had the chance to visit their offices and learn about the banking industry.
When we arrived at the office, a lot of important professional people introduced themselves. They talked to us about the different ways banks support people, communities, and businesses. They taught us about consumer and community banking, which focuses on helping people with their personal finances. They also talked to us about corporate and investment banking, which involves working with large businesses and governments to make financial decisions.
Finally, the professionals spoke about commercial and asset management and how banks help people plan for the future and create budgets to support themselves.
Afterwards, we broke up into small groups and discussed financial literacy topics. My favorite part of the day was when they explained the difference between credit cards and debit cards, as well as how to set personal budgets. In the afternoon, we had lunch and and a guided tour of their office. We saw models of trains and ships that were part of JP Morgan’s historical projects and toured the employee lounge, complete with games and snacks.
Overall the trip was both educational and fun! We learned about the professional world and valuable financial skills. I hope there will be more trips like this in the future!
